George Mitchell

Senator George Mitchell received the peace award in recognition of the major role that he played over five years in the historic developments to bring about peace and political stability in Northern Ireland and for his ability to mediate and to acquire the trust and confidence of the parties involved in the talks process, which proved vital in the very protracted negotiations that brought about the setting up of the Northern Ireland Assembly.
