The late Benazir Bhutto received the award in recognition of the very difficult path that she walked towards peace and democracy in Pakistan and the ultimate sacrifice made by Ms. Bhutto in her campaign to put her country back on the road to democracy.

Close family friend of the late Benazir Bhutto and senior member of the Pakistan Peoples Party, Bashir Riaz, proudly accepted the Tipperary Peace Award from Martin Quinn and Joe Quinn on behalf of the family of the assassinated former prime minister of Pakistan, at a ceremony in Ballykisteeen.
